上海时装商店的前身是先施公司。 1917年，旅澳华侨马应彪在南京东路650号创办先施公司，这家集购物、餐饮、娱乐为一体的新概念百货公司开业伊始即在沪上引起轰动，与此后相继开设的永安、新新、大新公司并称为“南京路四大百货公司”。1956年8月，上海最大的国营时装零售商店——南京路时装商店在先施公司旧址开业。1985年3月更名为上海时装公司。 先施公司1917年由德和洋行设计。沿街为骑楼式券外廊与街道相通，屋顶设有屋顶花园、茶座。大楼转角处立面有一个三层塔楼，其平面由下而上逐层收小且由方变圆，以塔司干式柱支撑。
