JR西日本223系1000番台未更新車の車両アセットです。207系のついでに作りました。 新快速の130 km/h 運転を実現するために1995年に登場しました。日本で初めて制御装置のvvvfと補助電源のsiv装置を一体型にした車両だそうです。また、クハ・サハでは一部空調設備を床下に移設することで低重心化を図るなど、高速化への挑戦が見られます。 ・JRW223-1000-AALoc-4Cars: 普通/米原⇔網干 ・JRW223-1000-AARap-8Cars: 快速/米原⇔網干 ・JRW223-1000
